I live for a good love story. Boy meets girl. They date, fall in love and have a happy ending just as Nicholas Sparks taught us in classics like The Notebook.
While in Auckland, I came across two Kiwis who had a love story that could put Dear John to shame.
Meet Banksy and Mango, our main characters. These two Kiwis spent the first year of their lives on the streets of Hamilton, New Zealand. Lonely, abandoned and unloved, they had little chance of survival. Thankfully Bansky and Mango found a forever home with Barista Cat Cafe. They also found each other.
As you’ve probably realized by now, Banksy and Mango are cats. Since the Barista Cat Café adopted them, they’ve spent their days snuggling together on their favorite orange cushion, being petted by tourists.
Barista Cat Cafe is a quirky café on Queen Street in downtown Auckland. For only $15 (U.S. $10), anyone can come and play with over 15 of Banksy and Mango's furry friends. The experience includes a coffee drink of choice and an introduction to all the cats.
As a cat owner and enthusiast, I found my tiny paradise in Auckland. Nothing was better than curling up with a chi latte and lounging with the cats as the afternoon rainstorm passed. After snuggling with Mango and playing with Banksy, I got the queue that it was couple time and moved on to meet some of the other cats.
I was lucky enough to go on a day that the owner brought her two new kittens Tommy and Toni to work. They were full of energy and constantly wanted to play.
I completely stumbled across the cafe and couldn't imagine my trip to Auckland without the hour and a half of kitty love I received. It was a great adventure to end my time here in Auckland and I would recommend it to all feline lovers.
