Jonathan Norris


Jonathan Norris graduated in 2015 from The University of Alabama, where he majored in visual journalism and minored in geography. He served as the photo director for Alpine Living Magazine, co-director of Vida Magazine and photo director of Dateline Alabama. He was the treasurer of the UA chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists from 2014-2015, Jonathan was a region 3 2015 Mark of Excellence sports photography finalist. In 2014, he was awarded the Carmage & Martha Ann Walls Endowed Scholarship in Print Journalism. He is currently seeking his MA in Journalism at The University of Alabama.

Taylor Armer

Managing Editor

Taylor Armer is a journalism graduate student at The University of Alabama. Her primary research interest is Black women’s body image; she plans to conduct both qualitative and quantitative research methods to study this topic. Professionally, Armer has both journalistic and public relations experience. She has written news stories for Dateline Alabama, a student-led news organization. Post graduation and as a graduate student, she has written press releases, event coverage and feature stories for departments on campus. Armer aspires to earn her Ph.D. in communication studies, to teach budding journalists and to set up media literacy programs that service African-American communities.

Christopher Edmunds

Art Director

Christopher Chase Edmunds is a multimedia journalist from Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to entering the journalism master's program at The University of Alabama, he worked as Art Director of Druid City Living and Crimson Magazine, both based in Tuscaloosa. He specialized in digital media while working at 5280 Magazine in Denver, Colorado, and in the sports world as a writer for, a fantasy baseball website based in New York City. While working on his undergraduate journalism degree at UA, he served as chief copy editor, then managing editor of The Crimson White. His work has also been featured in The Tuscaloosa News and The Selma Times-Journal.

Mary Kathryn Carpenter

Photography Editor

Mary Kathryn Carpenter is a senior at The University of Alabama where she is majoring in journalism and minoring in general business. She is from Natchez, Miss. She is the recipient of the UA Visual Journalist of the Year award for 2015-2016. Carpenter worked five summer internships at The Natchez [Miss.] Democrat as a photographer and reporter, and interned at The Tuscaloosa News in copy editing and design. She is a member of the UA Honors College and the Eta chapter of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, where she serves as the chapter’s Photography Chairman. She is also involved with various honor societies.

Hailey Grace Steele

Digital Editor

Hailey Grace Steele is a graduate student at The University of Alabama where she is pursuing a master’s degree in journalism. As an undergraduate, she majored in journalism and political science and served as a staff reporter for The Crimson White, a contributing writer for the Planet Weekly, a development intern for National Geographic Television and a grant writer for a nonprofit child literacy organization in Birmingham, Alabama. Before returning to the University, Hailey Grace worked as the news editor for a small, community newspaper and as a communication specialist for the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama. 

Madison Sullivan

Chief Copy Editor

Madison Sullivan is a journalism major at The University of Alabama with a double minor in international studies and sculpture. She serves as the Health and Food editor for Alice Magazine, where she is also a fitness writer and blogger. She is an editorial assistant at The Alabama Alumni Magazine. She formerly interned with The Kinston Free Press, and wrote for She is a member of Kappa Tau Alpha, as well as various other honor societies. Sullivan is a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Upsilon Chapter, where she served as the 2015-2016 homecoming head. She currently serves as Alpha Chi Omega's recognition chair.

Kaylin Bowen


Kaylin Bowen graduated in 2016 from The University of Alabama, where she majored in journalism and minored in English. She served as features producer for Dateline Alabama, editorial member of A-Book, and photography intern at The Tuscaloosa News. The first journalism major to join the University Scholar’s program, Kaylin will complete her bachelor’s and master’s degree simultaneously over the course of four years, while working as a teaching assistant in the College of Communications and Information Sciences under Dr. Jennifer Hoewe and Rick Bragg. 

Elizabeth Elkin


Elizabeth Elkin is a junior journalism major and theatre minor at The University of Alabama. She previously served as the news editor and summer editor-in-chief of The Crimson White, and is currently the managing editor. She was executive editor and is now editor-in-chief of Mosaic Magazine, as well as a reporting intern for WVUA 23. She has also contributed to Alice Magazine and Dateline Alabama.

Thomas Joa


Thomas Joa is a senior journalism major and creative writing minor graduating in December 2016. He is passionate about music, travel and writing. Thomas was part of the Vida Magazine editorial staff that travelled to Chile this past summer. After graduation, he plans to move to London where he will pursue a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Westminster. Thomas writes and records his own music and is interested in a career in the music industry. 

Mary-Margaret Schmidt


Mary-Margaret Schmidt is a senior from The University of Alabama, where she is double majoring in visual journalism and international studies. She is also pursuing a minor in French. She served as a photographer and content designer for Alpine Living Magazine. She is the Director of Communications for the Pre-Law Student Society. She is currently the Director of High School Relations for The University of Alabama Miracle Network Dance Marathon and also worked for their marketing and media team. 

Elayne Smith


Elayne Smith is a senior journalism major, minoring in international studies and Arabic at The University of Alabama. She has interned with The Tuscaloosa News, The Daily Home in Talladega, WVUA23-TV and Alabama Public Radio. She speaks French fluently, and Spanish and Arabic proficiently. She has been an International Student Ambassador through the UA Serbian Fellowship, a Kappa Tau Alpha Honor Society member, a Student Executive Council member for the College of Communication and Information Sciences, and co-founder and president for the International Communications Club.

Lane Stafford


Lane Stafford is a junior majoring in journalism at The University of Alabama. She has written for The Crimson White and Alice Magazine. Lane is currently a writer and photographer for UA Service Learning Magazine and an intern on the copy desk at The Tuscaloosa News. She is in the Honors College and a member of the Golden Key Honour Society. This summer Lane studied abroad in London at the University of Westminster. Lane has a passion for travel and her dream job would take her around the world.


Danielle Waddell


Danielle Waddell is a junior double majoring in journalism and religious studies, with a minor in Italian at The University of Alabama. She has worked as a weekly columnist for The Crimson White, a copy desk intern for The Tuscaloosa News and a correspondent for The Gadsden Times. Her writing has also appeared in Gadsden Style Magazine, Selma Times-Journal, Alice Magazine and Tirzah Magazine. 

Cara Walker


Cara Walker is a senior journalism major with a minor in digital media at The University of Alabama. She has served as a reporter for Vida Magazine, the UA Service-Learning Magazine and the TimesDaily, as well as a designer for Mosaic Magazine and an intern at Alabama Heritage. Her work has also been featured in Kid’s Life, Planet Weekly, Tirzah Magazine and the Alabama Publisher. She currently interns at Alabama Magazine and works in the Journalism and Creative Media Department.

Matthew Wilson


Matthew Wilson is a senior majoring in journalism at The University of Alabama. He served as content editor and culture editor for The Crimson White, managing editor for Mosaic Magazine, and interned as an arts and entertainment reporter with The Tuscaloosa News. Matthew was the recipient of the 2016 Roy W. Howard National Reporting Competition, 2016 Holle Award in Media Writing and ranked nationally in the 2015 Hearst Feature Writing Competition.
